Mornings can be super busy, I know mine are! Trying not to sleep through the alarm, getting showered and ready, maybe getting the kids ready too, breakfasts served, school drop offs...finding time for you may seem like an impossible task.
Though, maybe you snooze a few times through the alarm? Wake up at the last minute? Spend half an hour scrolling through your phone? Leave all your prep till the morning?
Starting your day in the best way possible, can completely change how you feel about your day. If you're a little more calm, a little more relaxed and organised, you'll likely feel you can achieve more throughout your day.
Give yourself enough time
Try setting your alarm a little earlier, or avoid all the snoozes. If you like to scroll through your phone, set a time-limit and choose carefully what accounts, posts, stories you want to read (I'll go through this in more detail on another blog).
Prepare
Choose your outfit the night before and leave it out ready - the same with school clothes if you have children.
Prepare and pack any lunches - I LOVE this simple Red Pepper Houmous & Basil Wrap.
Cereal and toast are simple and quick breakfasts, why not try overnight breakfast pots like this Strawberry & Apricot Granola Pot or a Green Breakfast Smoothie?
Put away your phone
How long do you spend mindlessly scrolling through social media in a morning? Not only does this take up valuable time, it can also have a negative effect on how you feel. Why not try an alarm clock, so you don't need to reach for your phone and get drawn in with all your notifications? I love the sunrise light ones, allowing you to wake up naturally, rather than a sudden jolt! Have a look at some of the current best sellers: Sunrise alarm clocks
If you do love a morning social media scroll, it may be useful to set a time-limit and be mindful of the accounts you follow - if they make you feel happy or inspired, then amazing! If not, maybe find some new accounts.
Plan
On a working day, I like to set 3-5 main goals to achieve, followed by a list of smaller tasks. My to-do lists are often lengthy (and I do love a list!), but it can sometimes feel overbearing. If you chunk your tasks into more manageable sections, it helps to focus and prevents distraction.
Move
Morning movement has such a positive and uplifting effect on the mind and body. Obviously, how much time and in what way you can move, may vary day to day. When I can, I walk my son to school, we enjoy chatting and planning our after-school activities. On the walk home, I put my earphones in and listen to a podcast or music, or record notes for my blog! When I get home, I feel energised and ready for my work day ahead.
If I have an early meeting and don't have time for a walk, I'll spend 10 minutes enjoying a yoga flow, gently waking up my and mobilising my body.
Maybe tomorrow, have a think about your morning routine, what do you enjoy and what do you find difficult? Do you feel organised and motivated or a bit frazzled?
Hopefully 1 or 2 of these tips may help you find a bit of extra morning motivation.
